We're about to head to Canada on a cruise on the 3rd. Hoping it'll be really cool. I'll be our first vacation with the kid, so we'll see how that goes. It'll be nice to see a Boston and Bar Harbor along the way. Weirdly, Dotty will be in Boston and LD will be in Bar Harbor. We may end up seeing them both. Papa and me can celebrate our 10th anniversary on the ship on the 6th. 10 years! That's just nuts.

Work has totally blown lately. I desperately need to find a way to make my job more enjoyable. Work on projects I like better. Work with people I like better. You'd think that since I assign the titles that this wouldn't be an issue, but i still manage to hose myself with some insipid editors and nasty designers. If it weren't for a few choice people, I think I would have to start seriously thinking of leaving. Good thing I have no motivation to do so.

I troll (is that the right word?) the real estate websites whenever I can. Wonder where we'll live eventually. Looking forward to a new space, more space, farther neighbors who can't hear every word I say.

Max lifted my shirt the other night and said "bellybut." I'm going to assume he was talking about my bellybutton and not that my belly looks like a butt.

Why do the delis put the pickle on top of the sandwich? Then the whole thing tastes like pickles.

And why did the building change all the no smoking signs to those genie sand things? Are they encouraging us to smoke?

Munchos are completely unnatural. And totally delicious.

So much has been going on lately, yet it's hard to keep up--and still do the 9 to 5 thing. Sales conference meant meetings up the wazoo. Special torture. And now it sucks trying to catch up. I'm really hating it here lately. I go through phases of it every so often, but this one is lasting a bit longer.

We need to get our kitchen floor redone again because they used 2 different tiles. Should look really cool when it's all done, but we'll have all our kitchen appliances in the living room for more days than we'd prefer. Plus, hand-washing the Max's bottle is not fun.

Wish there was a new Lost last night, but no. Luke on Gilmore Girls is pissing me off. He's like a whole different character now. And Summer and Seth had better get back together. Seriously.

Finished up Time and Again, the book Romeo lent me. Great ending, and I didn't see it coming. But should have. I'm about to start Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Everyone here has been raving about it.

You'd think I'd have more to say.

Things got busy. Max was sick. Took time off work. All back to normal, mostly. My kid turned 1, that was kind of crazy, but we had a really nice party for him. The Mets are back in season, and we have a ton of games to figure out if we can get to them. And we still haven't replaced brokenbuzz. (Have you arrived in the frozen north yet?).

I saw a Volkswagen Rabbit. Remember those? It screamed 80s.

I was staring at people last night as I walked to the train. I'm going to get myself in trouble doing this one day. But I just love to look at the expressions on people's faces when they think no one is looking. One girl was just walking along and smiling to herself, almost laughing. Another old man just looked really defeated. Most people look either rushed and grim-faced or defeated. You wonder if it belies their whole life? Or just the moment? You kind of feel bad for them. Wonder how I look when I think no one is looking.

I think I'll list my favorite TV shows. Not sure what this will reveal about me.

I haven't done that since July 2004. This is not normally the kind of thing that excites people, but it was kind of a big deal for me. I mean, Paul picked up Max (Thanks, Papa!), and I went out for brokenbuzz's good-bye party, it was like what normal people do. And the best part, Max slept till six a.m. and I didn't get a hangover.

The bar was fun, I hope everyone had a good time. Nana showing up was really fun and entertaining. And Jean had whiskey and practically turned purple. There are a few people I know brokenbuzz wanted there that didn't show. oh well.

We went to karaoke after. Mucho fun. I left at 11. Last song I heard was brokenbuzz singing Sister Chritistian or maybe it was Rocky Mountain HIgh. . . . I wonder how long it went on for? And I wonder if KTG is in good shape today. I'm guessing B is glad she took today off.

By the way, can someone tell me if it's necessary to use initials for names? I have no idea how sensitive people are About being mentioned. B, you've given me a complex!

Okay, back to my BK hash browns now. And work.

Yesterday was his last day. I'm totally bummed. This place is so lousy for me lately and now one of the people who actually helps makes it more bearable has left.

brokenbuzz, I actually teared up when I was saying good-bye to you yesterday. I didn't even tear up when Leigh left! (Sorry, leighmcd!) So I took off and then wouldn't even take the elevator with you. (But there was also an editor waiting for the vator that I wanted no part of, so it wasn't all you.) Sucks to be an emotional girl sometimes.

Plus, today's interview was so bad HR didn't even send her down. So now I'm bummed and frightened. And yet still in denial. Nice how that works.

Actually, it has all week, and it's only Tuesday. There is no joy in sitting in meetings all day long, not getting to spend time working on the books, which is why I joined this gig in the first place. And when I do get to work on books it's in a frenzy of crash schedules. So irritating. What happend to the 9 to 5? Do they still have that in places?

Paul said Max gagged on a piece of paper from one of our books this morning and threw up. Sign? Maybe.

Not much to say really, though I haven't written in a bit.

Had a really nice weekend with the fam, Maxie was as cute as ever. Went out to Jersey to visit with Uncle Corey and Aunt Lena and future BABY ACKERMAN. We had a really nice time, even if Max won't sleep in his pack'n'play. And Grandma and Grandpa babysat lsat night and gave Max pizza. I can't wait till the kid is totoally on solids.

I'm hating work today. I'm supposed to be proofing a book about girls coming out of the closet right now. I don't wanna do it. And my inbox is overflowing. So I really need to get cracking.

Ugh. I bashed my hand this morning walking into a wall, then had an hour and forty minute commute, and little pictures of Maxie keep popping up on my screen every 5 seconds reminding me of the place I would rather be. Ah, se la vie.

I do have about 15 hours worth of freelance I have to hand in. So that's good news.

5 Reasons today sucks:

• too big an inbox
• too many people bugging me
• too little time with Maxie

Yesterday was gorgeous! We must have walked 2 miles with Max. We did a whole loop from Marathon to Little Neck. We even met 2 little babies in the park: Ryan and Brianna. Who says there are only old people living in Deepdale?! Though, really, it's pretty much true.

Max ate Scobee eggs and potatoes yesterday. And then Carvel! Very little gagging. Always a positive.

Anyway, today though rainy, we will walk again, but inside the Broadway Mall. The appeal of the mall to parents? Lots of stores to run errands in, a place to eat, and lots for Max to look at, all without getting in and out of the car a hundred times. That's annoying without a kid.

Yes it is. That means a Burger King breakfast. At least today it does.

Plans for the weekend? Maybe a little Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Maybe a little Waldbaums. Maybe even a dinner out since grandmacita says she wants to babysit tomorrow night.

I'm so exciting I can't stand it.

Still waiting for the little bugger to stand and balance on his own. He was so close the other night. We only got 27 days left before the big b-day, so we'll see if his boots are made for walking . . . or not.

Maxie suddenly spiked a fever of 103.9 at bedtime and it went up to 104.7 after midnight. He felt so hot! He was shivering and whimpering. I can't remember the last time I held back that many tears.

I called the doctor. (I kinda feel bad about that, but she seemed just fine with it.) Anyway, she said I shouldn't worry too much, unless he has a SEIZURE! Oh, for god's sake. But the Tylenol finally kicked in about 1:30 a.m. and his hot little head cooled off a bit with some sweat. He stayed on me, crying a bit in his sleep, for the rest of the night.

Today, he was back down to 99 all day, and no other symptoms showed up. You'd never know he had anything wrong with him the night before. Crazy kid.

Next project after filing taxes: study seizure etiquette.

It's like homeowrk. Should brokenbuzz be allowed to give me homeowrk now that he is deserting us?
